Air Astana is a Kazakh airline founded in 2001. The airline made its first flight on May 15, 2002 on the route Almaty - Nur-Sultan (Astana).

In 2011, Air Astana was officially registered in the registry of airlines that successfully passed the International Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) by IATA (International Air Transport Association). Currently, Air Astana is the only airline from Kazakhstan registered in this registry since 2007.
