Air Serbia Flights

About

Air Serbia, the national carrier of Serbia, has a long history. It started in 1927 as Aeroput. On October 26, 2013, it began as the successor of Yugoslav Airlines and Jat Airways.

Today, Air Serbia flies to 78 destinations worldwide. It uses 25 aircraft, connecting the US, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Its main hub is Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, a key travel gateway.

In 2023, Air Serbia showed strong financial health. It made €628.3 million in revenue and €40.6 million in net income. The company's assets were €319.22 million, and equity was €218.84 million by 2022.

With 1,422 employees, Air Serbia carried 4.19 million passengers in 2023. The airline's passenger load factor rose from 67% in 2014 to 74.6% in 2023. Cargo operations also grew, from 2.7 kilotonnes in 2014 to 6.2 kilotonnes in 2023.

Check-in

Air Serbia offers various check-in options for its passengers. Online check-in service begins 36 hours before the flight and ends 3 hours before departure. With this service, passengers can prepare their travel documents from home and save time at the airport. The online check-in system, which is also accessible through the mobile app, offers the option to select seats. At the airport, in addition to traditional check-in counters, self-service kiosks are available at some airports.

For airport check-in procedures, Air Serbia recommends arriving at least 1 hour before departure for domestic flights and at least 2 hours before for international flights. Check-in counters close 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes before for international flights. Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has dedicated check-in counters for Air Serbia passengers. Priority check-in service is offered for passengers needing special assistance, those traveling with strollers or wheelchairs, and Business Class passengers.

Baggage Allowance

Hand Luggage

Air Serbia allows passengers to carry one piece of hand luggage and one personal item. Economy Class passengers can bring a bag weighing up to 8 kg, while Business Class passengers are allowed 2 pieces totaling 14 kg. The maximum dimensions for hand luggage are 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Personal items like laptops, handbags, or cameras must fit under the seat in front and should not exceed 40 x 30 x 10 cm. Liquids must comply with standard aviation regulations, limited to 100ml containers in a clear, resealable plastic bag.

Checked Baggage

Baggage allowance varies by fare type and route. Economy Light tickets typically don't include checked baggage, while Economy Standard allows one 23 kg bag, and Business Class permits two 32 kg bags. The maximum dimensions for each piece should not exceed 158 cm in total (length + width + height). Excess baggage can be purchased in advance at a discounted rate compared to airport fees. Air Serbia offers special rates for sports equipment as checked baggage, and members of the Air Serbia Etihad Guest program may receive additional baggage allowance based on their tier status.

Special Luggage

Air Serbia accommodates various types of special luggage, including sports equipment, musical instruments, and medical devices. Golf equipment, skis, and bicycles are accepted as special luggage but must be pre-booked and may incur additional fees. The airline provides free transportation for mobility aids such as wheelchairs. Fragile items should be appropriately packed in rigid containers, and valuable items are recommended to be carried in hand luggage. Some special items may require advance notification and approval from the airline. Passengers traveling with special luggage are advised to arrive at the airport earlier to allow extra time for check-in procedures.

Seat Selection

Air Serbia offers a seat selection service that allows passengers to personalize their flight experience. Passengers can use this service when purchasing tickets or later during online check-in. Seat selection fees vary depending on flight distance and seat location. Extra legroom seats, emergency exit row seats, and front row seats typically come with higher fees. Business Class passengers and upper-tier members of Air Serbia's loyalty program Etihad Guest can select seats free of charge.

On most Air Serbia aircraft, passengers can choose window, aisle, or middle seats according to their preferences. Seat selection options are also available for families or groups traveling together who wish to sit next to each other. Seat selection can be made up to 48 hours before the flight through Air Serbia's website, mobile app, or call center. However, Air Serbia reserves the right to change pre-selected seats for operational reasons. The airline also makes efforts to accommodate appropriate seat assignments for passengers with special needs.

Loyalty Program

Air Serbia's loyalty program operates in integration with the Etihad Guest program. This program allows passengers to earn miles from their flights and redeem them for various rewards. Members can earn miles not only on Air Serbia flights but also on flights with Etihad Airways and other partner airlines. The program consists of four membership tiers: Bronze (entry level), Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Each tier offers increasing benefits, and as members reach higher levels, they enjoy perks such as extra baggage allowance, priority check-in, and access to exclusive lounges.

Etihad Guest members can use their earned miles not just for flight tickets but also for hotel stays, car rentals, and shopping. The program also allows for mile transfers between family members and offers a special "Guest Young" program for children. The validity of the miles is two years, after which any unused miles expire. Air Serbia regularly runs special promotions for earning and spending miles, providing additional value to its members.

Food & Beverage

Air Serbia offers complimentary meals and beverages to passengers in all travel classes on most flights, with the quality and quantity varying by route length and cabin class. In Business Class, passengers can enjoy multi-course meals featuring both Serbian and international cuisine, served on proper chinaware with metal cutlery. The menu often includes traditional Serbian dishes like sarma (stuffed cabbage rolls) or gibanica (cheese pie), alongside international options. Selections of Serbian wines and rakija (fruit brandy) are available, as well as standard beverages including soft drinks, juices, tea, and coffee.

In Economy Class, the service depends on flight duration. On flights longer than 1 hour 45 minutes, passengers receive a complimentary sandwich or light meal along with a beverage service. For shorter flights, a snack and beverage service is provided. The airline sources many of its ingredients from local Serbian producers, emphasizing national culinary traditions while maintaining international standards. Special meals, including vegetarian, kosher, and children's options, can be requested in advance for long-haul flights.

In-Flight Entertainment

Air Serbia's In-Flight Entertainment offerings provide passengers with various options to stay entertained during their journey. The airline's long-haul aircraft, particularly those operating on intercontinental routes, are equipped with personal entertainment systems featuring touchscreen displays at each seat. These systems offer a selection of movies, including both Hollywood blockbusters and Serbian films, TV shows, music channels, and games. The content is regularly updated to ensure passengers have access to fresh entertainment options, and the interface is available in multiple languages including Serbian and English.

For shorter flights and aircraft without built-in screens, Air Serbia provides an alternative entertainment solution through its "Air Serbia WiFi" platform. Passengers can connect to the onboard WiFi network using their personal devices (smartphones, tablets, or laptops) to access a variety of content through the airline's streaming service. This platform offers digital magazines, newspapers, and a selection of audio content. Additionally, the airline's in-flight magazine, Elevate, is available in seat pockets and features articles about destinations, Serbian culture, and travel tips, serving as both entertainment and information source for passengers during their flight.
