Copa Airlines Flights
About
Copa Airlines was founded in 1947 in Panama and is headquartered at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City. Initially operating with three Douglas C-47 aircraft on domestic routes, the airline expanded into international flights in the 1960s. Today, Copa Airlines serves over 85 destinations in 33 countries across the Americas. In 2012, the airline joined Star Alliance, providing passengers with an extensive network and greater connectivity.
Recently, Copa Airlines has taken several steps to enhance the passenger experience. In 2025, it supported the testing of digital immigration and customs processes at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana. Additionally, in 2024, the airline partnered with Smartvel to provide real-time travel updates for passengers across its 85 destinations. These initiatives highlight Copa Airlines’ commitment to improving customer satisfaction and streamlining travel.
Check-in
Copa Airlines offers passengers various check-in options to simplify their travel experience. Online check-in is available from 24 hours to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time. During this process, passengers can select their seats and obtain their boarding passes. Those with checked baggage can drop it off at designated counters at the airport. Additionally, check-in can also be completed via the airline’s mobile app.
For passengers who prefer airport check-in, counters for international flights open 3 hours before departure and close 1 hour before takeoff. It is important for travelers to consider these times to complete security and passport control procedures smoothly. During peak travel periods, arriving early at the airport is recommended to avoid potential delays.
Baggage Allowance
Hand Luggage
Passengers are permitted one carry-on bag and one personal item. The carry-on bag must not exceed 22 pounds (10 kg) and dimensions of 22 x 14 x 10 inches (56 x 36 x 26 cm). Personal items, such as a purse or laptop bag, should fit under the seat in front of you. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as carry-on items.
Checked Baggage
Checked baggage allowances vary based on fare type and destination. For most international flights:
-
Economy Promo and Classic: 1 bag up to 50 pounds (23 kg)
-
Economy Full: 2 bags, each up to 50 pounds (23 kg)
-
Business Class: 2 bags, each up to 70 pounds (32 kg)
Bags should not exceed 62 linear inches (158 cm) in total dimensions. Economy Basic fares do not include a free checked bag; fees apply for checked baggage.
Special Luggage
Copa Airlines also allows special items like sports gear. Bicycles, skiing gear, and surfboards cost USD 100. Oversized luggage between 159-272 linear cm (63-107 inches) is USD 150 per piece on international flights. Always check with the airline for specific fees and restrictions for unique items.
Seat Selection
Copa Airlines offers an advanced seat selection service, allowing passengers to personalize their travel experience. Seat selection can be made during ticket purchase, through the "Manage Your Trip" section, or during online check-in. For Economy Basic fare passengers, a random seat is assigned four hours before departure, but those who wish to select a specific seat in advance can do so for an additional fee. Seat options include Economy Extra with extra legroom, emergency exit row seats, Convenient Seats located at the front of the cabin, and standard seats. Seat selection is free for members of the airline’s loyalty program, passengers with special needs, and children under 12 traveling with a guardian.
Passengers must complete check-in at least 60 minutes before departure and be at the gate 45 minutes before the flight to avoid losing their assigned seat without a refund. Those selecting emergency exit row seats must meet certain requirements, such as being at least 15 years old, speaking Spanish to understand safety instructions, and not traveling with an infant, pet, or medical device. The airline reserves the right to reassign seats for operational reasons. If a passenger is moved to a lower-class seat, a refund may be provided, but no refund is given if they are reassigned to an equal or better seat.
Loyalty Program
Copa Airlines' loyalty program, ConnectMiles, rewards travelers with frequent flyer benefits. It was launched in 2015. Members earn miles on Copa flights and through Star Alliance partners.
The program has a tiered structure with Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Presidential elite status levels. Each level offers more perks as you move up.
Members earn miles based on flight distance and fare class. Economy Basic earns 0.5 miles per mile flown. Full fare business class earns 3 miles.
Elite members get bonus miles on Copa flights. The bonus ranges from 25% for Silver to 100% for Presidential status. You can redeem miles for awards across the Star Alliance network.
One-way economy flights start at 7,500 miles. Business class starts at 30,000 miles.
Elite Status | Qualifying Miles | Qualifying Segments | Bonus Miles |
---|---|---|---|
Silver | 20,000 | 20 | 25% |
Gold | 35,000 | 35 | 50% |
Platinum | 60,000 | 60 | 75% |
Presidential | 75,000 | 75 | 100% |
ConnectMiles offers more than just flight miles. You can earn miles through hotel stays, car rentals, and purchases with partners. You can also transfer miles from Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:1 ratio.
Transferring 60,000 points gets you a 5,000-mile bonus. Star Alliance perks include lounge access and priority services for elite members.
Food & Beverage
Copa Airlines offers a variety of food and beverage services depending on the flight duration and travel class. On flights shorter than 3 hours and 30 minutes, economy class passengers receive snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, while business class passengers also have access to alcoholic drinks. For flights longer than 3 hours and 30 minutes, economy class passengers are served hot meals along with non-alcoholic beverages, while business class passengers can enjoy a wider selection of hot meals, as well as both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Passengers with special dietary requirements can request a special meal at least 24 hours before their flight. Available meal options include vegetarian, kosher, and gluten-free meals. This service is primarily available on business class flights longer than 2 hours, subject to availability.
In-Flight Entertainment
Copa Airlines provides various in-flight entertainment options to enhance the travel experience. Business Class and Economy Extra cabins feature 10-inch touchscreen monitors, allowing passengers to enjoy the latest movies, TV shows, music, games, and magazines. Additionally, each seat is equipped with USB ports and power outlets, enabling passengers to charge their personal devices during the flight.
For Main Cabin passengers, Copa Airlines offers the Copa Showpass wireless entertainment system. Travelers can connect their personal devices to the "Copa Intranet" Wi-Fi network to access a wide selection of content, including movies, TV shows, and music. Each seat also features a device holder and USB ports, ensuring passengers can comfortably use and charge their devices while enjoying the in-flight entertainment.
Pet Policy
Copa Airlines allows small dogs and cats to travel in the cabin. The total weight of the pet and its carrier must not exceed 10 kg (22 lbs). The carrier must be spacious enough for the pet to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Throughout the flight, the pet must remain inside the carrier, which should fit under the seat in front. Each passenger is allowed to bring only one pet, and a maximum of three pets are permitted per flight. Carrying a pet in the cabin replaces the passenger’s carry-on baggage allowance. The fee for transporting a pet in the cabin on international flights is $125 USD.
To be eligible for cabin travel, pets must be at least 16 weeks old and should be clean, odor-free, and well-behaved. During the flight, passengers may offer food or water to their pet, provided it remains inside the carrier. Travelers planning to fly with a pet should contact Copa Airlines’ Sales Office or Call Center at least 48 hours before departure to secure a spot for their pet. It is also essential to ensure all necessary documentation and health certificates are complete before travel.
Lounge Usage
Copa Airlines takes your travel to the next level with its top-notch lounges. Business Class travelers and some ConnectMiles members get to enjoy Copa Club lounges. These special spots are found at major airports in Copa's network, like two United Club lounges at Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City.
In Copa Club lounges, you'll find many amenities to make your pre-flight time better. You can relax in cozy seating, enjoy free food and drinks, and use free WiFi. Business travelers will love the work stations available. At PTY, the Copa Airlines Tocumen terminal is open all day and night, so you can visit the lounge whenever you want.
Being part of Star Alliance, Copa Airlines lets you use lounges all over the world. This means eligible passengers can enjoy lounges everywhere, not just in Copa's network. This global access is a big plus for those who travel a lot or for business, offering a consistent high level of comfort and service.
