JetBlue Airways Flights

About

JetBlue Airways, established in 2000 and headquartered in New York City, is one of the leading low-cost airlines in the United States. The airline operates flights to over 100 destinations, connecting the United States, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Europe through its extensive network. Operating from major hubs such as Boston, New York (JFK), Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Los Angeles, JetBlue is renowned for its customer-focused approach and innovative services. During flights, passengers enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi (Fly-Fi), DirecTV with live television, movies, and free snacks, offering a comfortable travel experience. These amenities, especially on long-haul flights, enhance customer satisfaction while adding a premium touch to the low-cost carrier model.

JetBlue continues to strengthen its industry leadership by regularly modernizing its fleet and focusing on technological investments. By 2025, JetBlue plans to expand its fleet with new-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A220-300 and Airbus A321neo, ensuring more efficient and environmentally friendly operations. Additionally, its "Even More® Space" program offers passengers benefits like extra legroom, priority security screening, and early boarding. The premium cabin service "Mint" is particularly popular on long-haul flights, providing a Business Class experience with lie-flat seats, gourmet dining options, and personalized services. JetBlue has also embraced digitalization through its partnership with Venmo, simplifying payment options for passengers. With its customer-centric service philosophy and innovative approach, JetBlue continues to stand out as a leading name in modern aviation.

Check-in

The JetBlue check-in process has several options for passengers. You can start online check-in 24 hours before your flight. It closes 40 minutes before for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international ones. Mobile check-in also has a similar timeline, ending 45 minutes before domestic flights.

For those who prefer to check in at the airport, JetBlue has choices. Curbside check-in is available from 6 hours to 40 minutes before your flight at most US airports. Self-service kiosks and ticket counters work from 6 hours to 20 minutes before your flight.

It's important to know the minimum check-in times. For domestic flights, it's 20 minutes, but it's 40 minutes for Fort Lauderdale, New York JFK, and Tampa. International flights need check-in at least 60 minutes before takeoff.

Check-in Method Domestic Flights International Flights

Mobile 24 hours to 45 minutes before 24 hours to 60 minutes before

JetBlue suggests arriving 2 hours early for domestic flights and 3 hours for international ones. Boarding closes 15 minutes before for domestic flights and 20 minutes for international ones.

Baggage Allowance

Hand Luggage

Passengers are permitted one carry-on bag and one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop bag, free of charge. The carry-on bag must not exceed 22 inches in length, 14 inches in width, and 9 inches in height (22 x 14 x 9 inches), including handles and wheels. Personal items should fit under the seat in front of you. It's important to note that bulkhead seats lack under-seat storage; therefore, all carry-on items must be stowed in the overhead bin during takeoff and landing.

Checked Baggage

For checked luggage, JetBlue's standard policy allows bags up to 62 inches (157 centimeters) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and a maximum weight of 50 pounds (23 kilograms). The fees for checked bags vary depending on the fare type and number of bags:

  • Blue Basic, Blue, and Blue Extra Fares: The first checked bag costs $35, the second is $45, and any additional bags are $150 each.

  • Blue Plus Fares: Includes one free checked bag; the second bag is $45, and additional bags are $150 each.

  • Mint Fares: Include two free checked bags; additional bags are $150 each.

Overweight bags (51-99 pounds or 24-45 kilograms) incur a fee of $150 per bag. Bags exceeding 99 pounds (45 kilograms) are not accepted. Oversized bags (63-80 inches or 158-203 centimeters) also incur a $150 fee, and bags larger than 80 inches are not accepted. Certain destinations, such as the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Peru, and Trinidad and Tobago, have specific restrictions, including limits on the number of checked bags and prohibitions on overweight or oversized luggage.

Special Luggage

JetBlue accommodates various types of special luggage, including sports equipment and musical instruments:

  • Sports Equipment: Items like skis, golf bags, fishing gear, hockey, and lacrosse equipment are accepted as checked baggage, adhering to standard size and weight restrictions. Bicycles are generally accepted for a fee of $100 each way, provided they do not exceed 99 pounds (45 kilograms); overweight fees are not applied to bicycles.

  • Musical Instruments: Small instruments that fit within the overhead bin can be carried on board as part of the carry-on allowance. Larger instruments may require purchasing an additional seat, provided they do not exceed 165 pounds (75 kilograms) in weight. Alternatively, instruments can be checked as baggage, counting toward the checked baggage allowance, as long as they do not exceed 150 inches (381 centimeters) in total dimensions or 165 pounds (75 kilograms) in weight.

Seat Selection

JetBlue offers a variety of seating options to meet different needs. With Blue, Blue Plus, and Blue Extra tickets, you can pick your seat for free. Blue Basic fares, however, only allow seat selection 24 hours before your flight.

Even More Space seats give you up to 7 inches more legroom. They also come with early boarding. For a premium experience, Mint offers lie-flat seats and top-notch service on select flights.

Prices for seat selection vary. Blue Basic passengers pay just $4, which is very low among U.S. airlines. Those with Core tickets get to choose their seats for free. Blue Extra fares add extra perks like free same-day changes and priority security access.

Loyalty Program

JetBlue's TrueBlue rewards program lets you earn points on flights and partner services. It's known for its flexible point-earning system. You can earn points based on ticket prices, fare types, and how you book.

For Blue Basic fares, you get 1 point for every dollar spent. Booking directly with JetBlue adds an extra point. Other fare classes like Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, and Mint offer more value. These tickets earn 3 base points per dollar, plus 3 bonus points for direct bookings.

TrueBlue members can earn points in many ways:

  • Car rentals with Avis and Budget (100 points per day)
  • Completing surveys via Jet Opinions (400 points for the first survey)
  • Dining out with TrueBlue Dining (up to 3 points per dollar)

The program has four elite status levels, Mosaic. Each level requires a certain number of tiles, earned through spending on JetBlue flights or credit cards. Mosaic members get perks like free checked bags, priority services, and free drinks.

TrueBlue points never expire, giving you flexibility in your travel plans. With a value of 1.5 cents per point, TrueBlue is competitive. The program's overall reward rate offers a 7.3% rebate from spend, making it great for frequent flyers.

Food & Beverage

JetBlue Airways offers a variety of in-flight food and beverage options to enhance the passenger experience. On all flights, passengers are provided with complimentary brand-name snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, including freshly brewed Dunkin'® coffee and Pepsi products. For those seeking more substantial options, JetBlue's EatUp® Boxes are available for purchase, offering a curated selection of snacks and light meals. Additionally, on select flights, the EatUp® Café menu provides fresh fare such as sandwiches and salads, catering to passengers desiring heartier options during their journey.

In the premium Mint cabin, JetBlue elevates the dining experience with a menu of small plates crafted in collaboration with renowned chefs. Depending on the time of day and flight duration, Mint passengers can enjoy a variety of dishes, including breakfast selections like salted yogurt with granola and fresh fruit, or lunch and dinner options such as orecchiette with pesto Genovese, parmigiana, and tomato. For overnight flights, the Shut-Eye Savor & Sleepâ„¢ menu offers lighter fare to promote rest. It's noteworthy that as of late 2024, JetBlue has transitioned to serving only chilled meals in the Core (economy) cabin on transatlantic flights, with options like pesto pasta salad and mushroom lentils for westbound travelers, and chicken grain bowls or ginger garlic tofu for eastbound journeys. This change aims to maintain high-quality service while managing operational costs.

In-Flight Entertainment

JetBlue Airways offers a comprehensive in-flight entertainment system to enhance the passenger experience. Every seat is equipped with a personal screen providing access to over 100 channels of free live television through DIRECTV®, as well as a selection of movies and SiriusXM® Radio. This extensive entertainment lineup ensures that passengers have a variety of options to enjoy during their flight.

In 2024, JetBlue introduced "Blueprint by JetBlue," an upgraded seatback entertainment platform that personalizes content recommendations and allows passengers to create customized playlists. A standout feature of this platform is the "Watch Party," enabling up to six passengers to synchronize their screens to watch the same movie or TV show simultaneously, regardless of their seating locations. This innovation makes JetBlue the first airline to offer such a shared viewing experience, enhancing the social aspect of in-flight entertainment.

Pet Policy

JetBlue Airways allows passengers to travel with small cats and dogs in the cabin on both domestic and international flights. The combined weight of the pet and its carrier must not exceed 20 pounds (9 kilograms). Each passenger is permitted to bring one pet per carrier, and a maximum of two pets per traveler is allowed; however, to bring a second pet, an additional seat and pet fee must be purchased. The pet must remain inside an approved carrier, with maximum dimensions of 17 inches in length, 12.5 inches in width, and 8.5 inches in height, which must fit under the seat in front of you. The carrier should be well-ventilated and leak-proof. A total of six pets are allowed per flight, so it's advisable to book early to secure a spot for your pet. The fee for bringing a pet on board is $125 each way.

It's important to note that pets are not accepted in JetBlue's Mint class. Additionally, pets must remain inside their carriers with the door securely closed and be placed under the seat for the entire duration of the flight. JetBlue does not allow pets to travel as checked baggage or cargo; all pets must travel in the cabin with their owners. Service animals are subject to different policies and are not considered pets; they are allowed to accompany passengers with disabilities without the pet fee, provided they meet specific requirements.

Lounge Usage

JetBlue Airways is set to enhance its premium offerings by introducing its first airport lounges at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) in late 2025. The JFK lounge will span 8,000 square feet, while the BOS lounge will cover 11,000 square feet. These lounges are designed to provide passengers with a comfortable space to relax, work, and socialize before their flights. Amenities will include complimentary food and beverages, high-speed Wi-Fi, private workspaces, and cozy seating areas. The lounges will be divided into three distinct areas: "Play," featuring a full-service bar; "Work," offering private workspaces and barista-made coffee; and "Lounge," providing comfortable seating with complimentary refreshments.

Access to these lounges will be primarily reserved for JetBlue's most loyal customers and premium credit cardholders. Complimentary access will be granted to holders of a new premium JetBlue credit card (details forthcoming), TrueBlue Mosaic 4 members, and transatlantic Mint customers. Mosaic 4 members and premium credit cardholders will also receive complimentary access for one accompanying guest. Additionally, day passes and guest passes will be available for purchase by other eligible customers, subject to space availability. JetBlue plans to offer annual lounge passes for purchase, making these premium spaces accessible to a broader range of travelers.
