About
Since its founding in 1926, Lufthansa has become one of the world's largest airlines. It is a member of the Star Alliance, which is the largest airline alliance in the world. As of 2023, Lufthansa operates more than 290 aircraft and serves over 300 destinations in nearly 80 countries around the world. The airline is also known for its premium services, such as its luxurious lounges, delicious meals, and excellent customer service. With all of these features, it is no wonder that Lufthansa is one of the most popular airlines in Europe.
Check-in
The check-in process for Lufthansa flights is simple. You can check in online, at the airport, or at one of the Lufthansa self-service kiosks. When checking in online, you will need to provide your booking reference number and your last name. At the airport, you will need to present your passport and boarding pass. If you are checking in at a kiosk, you will need to scan your passport and boarding pass. After completing the check-in process, you will receive your boarding pass.
Online check-in opens 23 hours before the flight departure time and closes 40 minutes before.
Baggage Allowance
Carry-on Baggage
In economy class, a passenger can carry 1 piece of hand luggage weighing up to 8 kg in the cabin of the aircraft at no additional charge. In business class and first class, you can carry two pieces of the same weight. In addition, you can take a laptop bag or a small briefcase on board. If a child under two years old does not occupy a separate seat, then the carry-on baggage allowance does not have.
Checked Baggage
The maximum size of a luggage piece is 158 cm (the sum of measurements for width, height and length). The allowed free baggage allowance is indicated on the ticket or passenger receipt. Baggage allowance depends on route, travel class and fare.
Flights within Europe;
- Economy Class (Light Fare) - Without luggage

Holders of Senator, HON Circle and Star Alliance Gold statuses have the right to carry additionally (free of charge).
Special Luggage
Those traveling with special luggage such as musical instruments or sports equipment should visit the airline's website or contact the customer service center. The rules for carrying such baggage can vary greatly depending on the country of arrival and the specific flight.
Seat Selection
Seat selection is an important part of the flight experience. Lufthansa offers a variety of seat types and classes, so you can choose the option that best fits your needs. Economy class seats are designed for comfort and convenience. Business class seats offer more legroom and recline capability. First-class seats are the most luxurious option, with fully-flat beds and spacious seating. You can select your seat online or at the airport when you check-in.
The following prices apply for seat reservation in Economy Class;
- Standard seat: From 12 € - 35 €
- Seat in the preferred seating zone: From 17 € - 55 €
- Seat with more legroom: From 25 € - 110 €
Loyalty Program
Lufthansa offers a loyalty program called Miles & More. With this program, you can earn miles with every flight you take. You can then redeem these miles for flight upgrades, upgrades to business or first-class seats, hotel stays, car rentals, and more. You can also earn bonus miles when you book hotels, rental cars, and shop at select stores. The more miles you earn, the more rewards you can get.
Food & Beverage
Lufthansa offers a wide selection of food and beverage options for its passengers. On short flights, you can expect light snacks such as sandwiches and wraps. On longer flights, you can expect more substantial meals such as hot dishes and salads. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. If you're flying in business or first class, you can expect a more luxurious dining experience with gourmet meals, snacks, and drinks.
In-Flight Entertainment
Lufthansa offers a variety of in-flight entertainment options to keep you entertained during your journey. On most flights, you can expect a selection of movies, TV shows, and music. You can also access the internet on your own device and enjoy a selection of games. If you are flying in business or first class, you can expect a larger selection of movies and TV shows, as well as access to the Lufthansa magazine.
Pet Policy
If you are traveling with a pet, you can take them with you on Lufthansa flights. Only cats or dogs in special containers can be transported in the aircraft cabin. However, you must meet certain requirements. Pets are only allowed in the cabin if they are small enough (8 kg) to fit in a carrier that can fit under the seat in front of you. Pets must also be at least 8 weeks old and have valid health and vaccination documents. Additionally, there is an additional fee for bringing a pet on board. A larger list of animals can be transported in the luggage compartment of the aircraft. In this case, it is also necessary to have a special container for transporting the animal.
If for the transportation of an animal in the cabin you will need to pay from 50 to 70 euros, then transportation in the luggage compartment implies an additional payment of 100 to 300 euros. The exact amount depends on the direction of the flight and the weight of the animal. Please note that you need to clarify in advance the possibility of transporting an animal at the airline's representative office. This must be done at least one day before departure.
Lounge Usage
Lufthansa offers access to its luxurious lounges for its passengers. The lounges are equipped with comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and drinks, high-speed internet access, and other amenities. If you are flying in business or first class, you have complimentary access to the lounges. If you are flying economy, you can purchase a lounge pass at the airport.
