About
Singapore Airlines, established in 1947, is the national carrier of Singapore and a global leader in premium air travel. Operating out of its hub at Singapore Changi Airport, the airline connects over 90 destinations across five continents, with a fleet of approximately 200 modern aircraft, including advanced Airbus and Boeing models. Renowned for its exceptional in-flight service, Singapore Airlines has earned numerous accolades, including the Skytrax 5-Star Airline rating. The airline continues to innovate with luxurious cabin offerings such as Suites Class and its award-winning KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system. Sustainability is also a key focus, with initiatives aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
In 2024, Singapore Airlines demonstrated remarkable financial and operational resilience. Reporting strong passenger demand and robust recovery in international travel, the airline recorded significant growth in revenues, driven by its extensive route network and premium services. Strategic investments in digital transformation and operational efficiency further solidified its position in the global aviation market. Additionally, its loyalty program, KrisFlyer, continues to attract travelers with exclusive benefits, emphasizing the airline's commitment to enhancing the customer experience.
Check-in
Check-in can be done individually online/mobile, at the airline counter with staff, or using self-service kiosks.
If you want to use the counter check-in, the system opens 48 hours before the flight and continues until 40 minutes before departure. Mobile and online check-in systems also open 48 hours before the flight and continue until 2 hours before departure. If you check-in via mobile or online, remember to print out your boarding pass. Additionally, you must still go to the airport.
Using self-service kiosks at the airport for individual check-in is also quite easy. These kiosks are available 18 hours before your flight and continue until 1 hour before departure. You just need to enter your ticket number and a few of your identification details to follow the steps.
It is recommended that you arrive at the airport 2 hours before your flight for check-in procedures.
Baggage Allowance
Hand Luggage
Singapore Airlines' hand luggage policy varies by travel class. Economy Class passengers are allowed one piece of hand luggage, while Business, First, and Suites Class passengers can bring two. Each item must weigh no more than 7 kg and have maximum dimensions of 115 cm (45 inches). Additionally, all passengers are permitted to carry a small personal item, such as a handbag or laptop bag.
Checked Baggage
Checked baggage allowances depend on the travel class and route. In Economy Class, passengers typically have one or two pieces of baggage allowance, each weighing up to 23 kg. Business and First Class travelers are allowed heavier baggage, with each piece weighing up to 32 kg. On routes using the weight-concept system, total baggage limits range from 30 kg in Economy to 40–50 kg in premium classes. Exceeding these limits incurs additional fees for extra weight or pieces.
Special Luggage
Special baggage, such as sports equipment or musical instruments, can be transported as part of the standard baggage allowance if they meet weight and size requirements. Items must not exceed 32 kg or dimensions of 200 cm x 75 cm x 80 cm. For oversized or overweight items, pre-approval and additional fees may apply. For instance, golf bags are considered standard checked baggage if they adhere to the specified criteria.
Seat Selection
Singapore Airlines lets passengers pick their seats on most flights. You can choose from advance seat selection, preferred seating, or extra legroom. This ensures a comfortable trip for everyone.
Economy Class passengers pay for seat selection. Prices vary by seat type and route. Standard seats cost between $10 and $130. Extra legroom and solo seats in Premium Economy range from $60 to $168.
- Some ticket classes and KrisFlyer members get free seat selection.
- PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club members, along with their companions, get fee waivers or discounts on advance seat selection.
- KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Gold members get free seat selection or discounts based on their status.
- Traveling with infants or children (aged 2-11 years) allows for free selection of certain seats.
At 48 hours before departure, all seats become available for selection during online check-in. This includes extra legroom and solo seats for all passengers.
Singapore Airlines' seat selection policies aim to offer a personalized travel experience. Passengers can pick seats that meet their needs and preferences.
Loyalty Program
Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer loyalty program offers a range of benefits for frequent travelers. Members can earn KrisFlyer miles by flying with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, or its partner airlines under the Star Alliance network. Additional miles can be accrued through spending on eligible credit cards, hotel stays, car rentals, and retail partnerships. Miles can be redeemed for award flights, seat upgrades, or exclusive experiences. Membership is free, and once enrolled, users can track their miles and benefits easily through their online accounts.
The program includes tiers such as KrisFlyer Silver and Gold, offering progressively valuable benefits. Silver members gain perks like priority waitlisting, while Gold members enjoy lounge access, additional baggage allowance, and Star Alliance Gold status benefits. For premium travelers, the PPS Club provides exclusive rewards based on spending rather than mileage, catering to those who often fly in first or business class. The program is highly versatile, supporting mile transfers and offering opportunities to extend or renew expired miles.
In-Flight Entertainment
Singapore Airlines provides an exceptional in-flight entertainment experience through its KrisWorld system. With access to over 1,900 options, passengers can enjoy the latest movies, TV shows, music, and games. The platform includes curated playlists available on KrisWorld and Spotify, live TV for current events and sports, and a digital library featuring magazines and newspapers. Games like Wordler and Snake Challenge add interactive fun for all ages. KrisWorld also offers a personalized touch through the myKrisWorld feature, where KrisFlyer members can create custom playlists, bookmark favorites, and receive tailored content recommendations for a seamless experience on every flight.
Connectivity is another highlight, with Wi-Fi plans catering to different needs. KrisFlyer members in premium cabins can enjoy complimentary access, while other passengers can purchase affordable plans starting from USD 3.99 for an hour. The system’s integration with personal devices enables passengers to use the SingaporeAir mobile app to manage entertainment preferences and access the digital menu or Wi-Fi portal, enhancing convenience and comfort throughout the journey.
Pet Policy
Singapore Airlines does not permit pets to travel in the cabin. However, pets can be transported as checked baggage on the same flight as their owners, provided they meet certain requirements. Pets must be at least 3 months old, and the combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 32 kg (70 lbs). Puppies or kittens from the same litter may share a carrier if they are at least 3 months old and their combined weight is less than 14 kg (30 lbs). For journeys involving pets, a fee is applied based on the pet's weight and the travel route. For example, the fee ranges between $50-$120 for most routes, while flights to/from the United States incur fees of $150-$225.
Pet carriers must comply with Singapore Airlines' strict guidelines. They must provide enough space for the animal to move comfortably, be well-ventilated on at least three sides, and include secure food and water containers. Certain dog breeds, such as Akitas and Boerboels, are not accepted as checked baggage or cargo. Additionally, pets from connecting flights with other airlines cannot transit on Singapore Airlines flights. These policies ensure safety and comfort for pets and compliance with international regulations.
Lounge Usage
Singapore Airlines has a wide range of lounges for different loyalty levels and classes. The SilverKris Lounges are for Business and First Class passengers, and PPS Club members. These lounges offer many amenities, like being open 24/7 at Changi Airport.
KrisFlyer Elite Gold members and Economy Class travelers have their own lounges. The Private Room in Changi is for Suites and First Class passengers. It offers top-notch luxury and service.
Access rules for lounges depend on where you are and your status. At airports without a Singapore Airlines lounge, you can use partner lounges. Knowing about Singapore Airlines' lounges can make your airport visit better, whether you fly often or not.
