About
TAROM, the Romanian national airline, started as CFRNA on January 1, 1920. It changed its name to TAROM on September 18, 1954. Since then, it has been a key player in the aviation world, flying to places in Europe and beyond.
In 2019, TAROM made €315 million, making it the biggest airline in Romania. The Romanian Government owns 97.22% of it. That year, the airline carried almost 2.75 million passengers, with an average of 74% of seats filled.
TAROM has grown by making new alliances and adding more planes to its fleet. It joined the SkyTeam alliance on June 25, 2010, giving passengers more places to go. The airline used to have 65 planes in the 1990s but now has 18, including Airbus A310s and Boeing 737-800s. It also plans to get five Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft starting in 2023.
Check-in
Tarom, Romania's national airline, offers several check-in options to its passengers for convenience and efficiency. Online check-in is available for most Tarom flights, starting 30 hours before departure and closing 3 hours prior to the scheduled flight time. This service allows passengers to select their seats, print their boarding passes, or save them on their mobile devices. For those who prefer to check in at the airport, Tarom provides traditional counter check-in services as well as self-service kiosks at select airports.
For domestic flights within Romania, Tarom recommends passengers arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before departure, while for international flights, the recommendation is 3 hours prior to departure. Check-in counters typically close 40 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights. Tarom also offers a mobile app that allows passengers to manage their bookings, check in for their flights, and access their digital boarding passes, streamlining the pre-flight process for tech-savvy travelers.

Passengers with FLEX category tickets or those holding Elite PLUS membership cards from the FlyingBlue or SkyTeam programs can select seats for free in Economy class.
Tarom’s seat selection service is available up to 48 hours before the flight. Passengers can make this selection via "My Booking," the Tarom Call Center, any Tarom agency, or partner travel agencies. On all international Tarom flights, seat selection for Business class is free. Passengers can find the terms of the "Advance seat reservation" service on Tarom’s official website. This service provides passengers with the opportunity to personalize their flight experience and plan a more comfortable journey.

Tarom's loyalty program, Flying Blue, is designed to reward frequent flyers with a range of benefits and exclusive offers. Members earn miles on every flight with Tarom and its partner airlines, which can be redeemed for flight tickets, upgrades, and various other rewards. Tarom’s affiliation with the SkyTeam alliance further extends the benefits, offering seamless connections and additional advantages across the network of partner airlines.

This content includes newly released movies, classic productions, TV shows, music albums, and interactive games. Additionally, a flight information system is available, displaying details such as flight route, speed, and altitude. Tarom regularly updates its entertainment content, striving to offer passengers current and diverse options.
On some flights, Tarom also provides its own in-flight magazine to passengers. This magazine features interesting articles about Romania and flight destinations, travel tips, and cultural content. On short-haul flights or aircraft without seatback screens, passengers can access entertainment content using their own electronic devices. Tarom advises passengers to download movies, music, or e-books before their flight. Moreover, Wi-Fi service is offered on some flights, allowing passengers to access the internet from their own devices.
Pet Policy
Traveling with your pet can be a joy, and Tarom Romanian Airlines makes it easy. They have a pet policy that meets your and your pet's needs. This ensures a smooth and comfy journey for everyone.
Tarom lets small dogs and cats up to 17 lbs (8 kg), including their carrier, in the cabin. They must be in an approved carrier that fits under the seat in front of you. Pets over 17 lbs go in the cargo hold, but you need to book ahead and pay extra.
For safety and comfort, Tarom has rules on size and weight for pets. In-cabin carriers can't be bigger than 42x30x21 cm (16.5x11.8x8.3 inches), and only one pet per person is allowed. Some breeds like American Bulldogs, Chow Chows, and Pekinese can't go in the cargo hold because of health risks.
To make travel easy, Tarom needs a health certificate from a vet within 10 days before your trip. For international trips, you might need a Veterinary Certificate and Import Permit too.
