Utair Flights

About

Utair Aviation, founded in 1967, is a Russian airline offering scheduled and charter flights as well as helicopter services. The airline operates an extensive domestic network within Russia, with its main hubs located at Surgut International Airport and Moscow Vnukovo International Airport. Utair is particularly known for its comprehensive charter operations, supporting the oil and gas industry in Western Siberia with fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

In addition to its domestic routes, Utair operates flights to international destinations such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus. As of 2024, the airline's fleet consists of 60 aircraft with an average age of 20.8 years. Utair is also a global leader in helicopter transportation, operating more than 300 helicopters for various industrial operations. However, in recent years, the airline has faced financial challenges and has been impacted by U.S. sanctions. In response, the company has taken significant steps to restructure its operations and stabilize its business.

Check-in

Utair offers multiple check-in options to accommodate passenger preferences. Online check-in is available from 36 hours up to 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time. For flights departing from Vienna and Tel Aviv, online check-in closes 1 hour before departure. Passengers can complete this process via Utair's official website, allowing them to select seats and obtain boarding passes electronically. It's important to note that online check-in may not be available for passengers requiring special assistance, those traveling in groups larger than nine, or on codeshare flights.

For those who prefer traditional methods, airport check-in counters open 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights, closing 40 minutes prior to departure. Self-service kiosks are also available at select airports, offering check-in services from 24 hours to 45 minutes before departure. Passengers with only carry-on baggage and an electronic boarding pass can proceed directly to security screening. However, those with checked baggage should ensure it is dropped off at the appropriate counters no later than 50 minutes before departure. Adhering to these timelines helps ensure a smooth boarding process.

Baggage Allowance

Hand Luggage

Utair allows passengers to bring one piece of hand luggage with maximum dimensions of 40×30×20 cm and a weight up to 5 kg, regardless of the fare type. Passengers traveling on Premium and Business fares are permitted an additional larger hand luggage item measuring up to 55×40×25 cm and weighing up to 10 kg. In addition to hand luggage, passengers may carry personal items such as a handbag, briefcase, or small backpack, as well as items like a bouquet of flowers, umbrella, outerwear, baby food for the flight, a suit in a garment bag, medical supplies needed during the flight, and duty-free purchases not exceeding 3 kg.

Checked Baggage

Checked baggage allowances vary by fare and class of service. Optimum and Premium fare passengers in Economy Class are entitled to one piece of checked baggage weighing up to 20 kg, with total dimensions not exceeding 203 cm. Business Class passengers may check in two pieces of baggage, each weighing up to 30 kg. Passengers traveling with infants under 2 years old without a separate seat can bring one piece of hand luggage up to 5 kg and additional items like baby food, a cot, and a stroller, as per regulations.

Special Luggage

Sports Equipment
Passengers with Premium and Business fares can check in one set of sports equipment weighing up to 20 kg at no extra cost. This includes items like skis, snowboards, bicycles, or diving gear. Minimum and Optimum fare passengers are required to pay an additional fee of 3,000 ₽ (or €50 for international flights) per set per route segment for transporting sports equipment. Sports equipment should be properly packed to prevent damage, and certain items may need to be registered in advance due to space limitations.

Musical Instruments
Small musical instruments that fit within the standard hand luggage dimensions (40×30×20 cm) can be carried on board at no extra charge. Larger instruments may require the purchase of an additional seat or checking in as hold baggage, subject to applicable fees. It's advisable to contact Utair in advance to arrange the transportation of larger musical instruments and ensure compliance with size and weight restrictions.

Seat Selection

Utair offers flexibility for seat selection to its passengers. Premium ticket holders and Status Silver or Status Gold cardholders can select their seats free of charge. Status Bronze cardholders can choose their seats for 99 ₽ on domestic flights or 1.5 € on international flights. Other passengers are automatically assigned a seat during check-in but can choose their preferred seat for an additional fee of 299 ₽ (5 € for international flights) during ticket purchase or check-in.

For passengers seeking extra comfort, Utair provides the "Choose Comfort" service. This includes seats with extra legroom, which can be reserved for 1,500 ₽ on domestic flights or 20 € on international flights. However, for safety reasons, these seats located in emergency exit rows are not available to certain categories of passengers, such as those under 18 years old, pregnant women, or those traveling with pets.
