Onur Air Flights

About

Onur Air was founded on April 14, 1992, with its headquarters in Istanbul, and operated its first flight on May 14, 1992. Since its establishment, the airline has provided both domestic and international scheduled and charter flights, becoming one of Turkey's leading private airlines. It primarily operated routes to various destinations in Europe and the Middle East, with a fleet consisting mainly of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.

However, due to financial difficulties and the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, Onur Air was forced to suspend its operations in 2021. The company's bankruptcy process is still ongoing, with uncertainties surrounding the payment of salaries and compensation to its employees. Additionally, some of the aircraft in its fleet have been put up for sale through legal proceedings.

Check-in

Prior to the suspension, Onur Air offered online check-in services through its official website, allowing passengers to select seats and print boarding passes from 24 hours up to 90 minutes before departure. For airport check-in, passengers were advised to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights to complete the necessary procedures. Given the current suspension of operations, travelers are encouraged to consult alternative airlines for their travel plans.

Baggage Allowance

Hand Luggage

Before suspending its operations, Onur Air allowed each passenger to carry one piece of hand luggage with a maximum weight of 8 kg and dimensions of 25 x 45 x 56 cm. This baggage could be kept with the passenger inside the cabin. Additionally, a small personal item, such as a handbag or laptop bag, was also permitted.

Checked Baggage

The checked baggage allowance varied depending on whether the flight was domestic or international and the type of ticket purchased. For domestic flights:

  • Basic Package: 15 kg
  • Standard Package: 20 kg
  • Special Package: 25 kg

For international flights:

  • Basic Package: 20 kg
  • Standard Package: 30 kg
  • Special Package: 40 kg

Additionally, infant passengers were granted an extra 10 kg baggage allowance. Each checked baggage item had a maximum weight limit of 32 kg, and any excess weight was subject to additional charges.

Special Luggage

Onur Air allowed sports equipment and musical instruments as special baggage. However, additional fees could apply, and passengers were required to contact the airline in advance. Items such as surfboards, bicycles, ski equipment, or large musical instruments needed to comply with specific size and weight restrictions. If baggage exceeded the permitted limits, extra fees might be charged, or the baggage could be denied transport.

Seat Selection

Onur Air, before suspending its operations, offered passengers the option to select their seats for an additional fee. Passengers could choose their seats up to three hours before departure via the airline’s official website or call center. For domestic flights, seat selection fees started at 15 TL, while for international flights, the fee was 15 EUR. Seats with extra legroom, such as those in the emergency exit rows, were available at higher prices.

Loyalty Program

Onur Air launched its OnurExtra loyalty program in 2015 to reward frequent travelers. This program allowed passengers to earn points based on their flights and purchases. Accumulated points could be redeemed for free or discounted tickets on future flights. Additionally, new members were given a 1,000 welcome points bonus as part of the program’s benefits.

OnurExtra also provided various privileges to its members. Passengers who reached a certain point level were entitled to priority check-in, extra baggage allowance, and exclusive discounts. The program aimed to enhance customer loyalty and offer a more comfortable travel experience. However, with Onur Air suspending its operations in 2021, the OnurExtra loyalty program was also discontinued.

Food & Beverage

Onur Air, before suspending its operations, provided food and beverage services on its flights. On charter flights, passengers were offered a complimentary drink, while scheduled flights operated on a "buy-on-board" system. Passengers had the option to pre-order meals for an additional fee before their flight. While pre-ordered meals were generally rated as good quality, some inconsistencies were reported.

However, some passenger reviews indicated that in-flight food purchase options were limited, with only basic drinks like water or coffee available. This lack of availability caused inconvenience, especially on longer flights.

In-Flight Entertainment

Onur Air, before suspending its operations in 2021, offered limited in-flight entertainment options to its passengers. The airline did not provide personal seat-back screens or overhead monitors on most of its flights. As a result, passengers were encouraged to bring their own electronic devices, such as tablets or laptops, pre-loaded with content to keep themselves entertained during the journey.

In 2018, Onur Air explored enhancing its in-flight connectivity by partnering with Aerkomm and Airbus to potentially introduce wireless in-flight entertainment systems. However, there is no concrete evidence that these systems were fully implemented before the airline ceased operations. Therefore, passengers primarily relied on their personal devices for entertainment while flying with Onur Air.

Pet Policy

Onur Air, before suspending its operations in 2021, had specific policies regarding pet transportation. Passengers were allowed to carry small pets such as cats, dogs, or birds in the cabin for an additional fee. To qualify for this service, the total weight of the pet and its carrier could not exceed 8 kg. Additionally, specific requirements had to be met, including carrier size restrictions and the pet’s health condition.

However, since Onur Air has ceased operations, these services are no longer available. Passengers planning to travel with their pets are advised to check with alternative airlines for their current pet transportation policies. Since each airline has different regulations regarding pet acceptance, transportation conditions, and fees, it is essential to obtain detailed information before traveling.

Lounge Usage

Onur Air, before suspending its operations in 2021, did not offer a dedicated lounge service for its passengers. As a low-cost airline, it aimed to provide affordable travel by minimizing additional services. Therefore, passengers with an Onur Air boarding pass did not have access to airline-operated lounges or third-party lounges included in the ticket price.

However, some airports provided independent lounges that all passengers could access for a fee. These lounges offered amenities such as rest areas, food and beverage services, and Wi-Fi access, allowing passengers to relax before their flight or during a layover. Passengers traveling with Onur Air who wanted to use such lounges were advised to check the available services and fees at their respective airports in advance.
